課程概述

This course is designed for graduate students who seek training and/or improvement in their English-language presentation skills for academic purposes. While one end goal is to prepare students for oral presentations for conferences and professional events, the course content is designed to widen the possibilities for exploring presentations using storytelling and other creative and experiential elements, to appeal to general and specific audiences.

Prerequisites:
1) Lectures and materials are presented in English. You will need to have a confident level of English to successfully participate in this course. Learner-centered discussions, however, can be conducted in any language.
2) This course is not open to undergraduates or auditors.
3) Registration by CEIBA does not guarantee you a place in this class.

Enrollment will be determined by an interview and the ability to clearly summarize your needs and objectives on the first course day.

課程目標
By the end of the course, you should be able to:

1) Know how to conceive and design an academic presentation for general and expert audiences based on your own research.
2) Identify and select effective features of academic and other kinds of presentations, and apply these to your presentations.
3) Present more confidently and persuasively in English by choosing appropriate presentation structures and voice techniques.
4) Know how to analyze and manage your audience to ensure maximum value of your presentation content.
課程要求
There are two main individual presentation assignments for this course:

THREE-MINUTE THESIS (3MT): Simulating the format of the international presentation competitions, you will be asked to design and present a three-minute presentation of your research designed for well-educated but general audiences. This presentation, although short, must be thorough and cover all the essential aspects of your research.

FINAL PRESENTATION: For the final presentation, you will be asked to design and deliver a 10-minute conference- or seminar-style presentation. This presentation should be designed for your expert audiences, and so might be more technical or complex than the 3MT.

ADDITIONAL GROUP PRESENTATION ASSIGNMENTS: In-class participation and additional class assignments will significantly count towards the final grade.
